Land allotment: VUDA told to crack the whip

March 13, 2012 02:04 pm | Updated 02:04 pm IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

A comprehensive report submitted by Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority Vice-Chairman Kona Sasidhar has recommended initiation of criminal action against all the persons involved in the irregularities in involvement of its land.

The comprehensive report was submitted to the government by Mr. Sasidhar through the Principal Secretary, Municipal Administration and Urban Development, in Hyderabad on Monday. The value of the land is put at Rs.500 crore.

It was learnt that the report recommended cancellation of all land allotments made in violation of rules during the last four years.

The land allotments involved Ozone valley at Paradesipalem, in which land was developed in land-pooling involving farmers, Cyber Valley developed by VUDA, Rushikonda, Endada, MVP Colony, Ocean View layout on the Beach Road and Kurmannapalem. Some of the allotments were alleged to have been made during the tenure of a former Secretary and Estate Officer of VUDA.

The Vice-Chairman's report mainly covered the allotment of an open space of 1400 square yards meant for semi-community purpose in Sector II of MVP Colony on which an apartment complex is coming up, allotments in illegal layout in Survey no.127 of Madhurawada and allotment of odd bits in various parts of the city at throwaway prices.

While it is for the government to take action against private individuals and any officials involved, Mr. Sasidhar himself would initiate action against subordinate staff, it was reliably learnt.

Special authority

The Vice-Chairman has also recommended investigation by a special authority into the land allotments since the inception of VUDA.
