A beach cleanup awareness programme was organised by Youth Hostel Association of India (YHAI) at R.K. Beach on Sunday. As part of the event, placards were kept at different places on the beach road.

Members of YHAI took part in the beach cleanup event and organised a game of kho-kho to draw attention of the visitors on the beach road. “We have to educate Vizagites to protect the city and the beaches. This time of the year we receive a lot of tourists and due to the crowd, the beaches are filled with waste and plastics. We want to create awareness among the people to keep the beaches clean and use dustbins instead of littering the beaches,” said Ch. Sreenivasa Prasad, State chairman, YHAI. Youth Hostel has been conducting cleanliness awareness drive at different places across the country. The organisation has been carrying out a sustained awareness drive at Rohtang Pass in Himachal Pradesh involving local officials, cab drivers and tourists. “The idea of conserving nature should be instilled at an early age. For this, we plan to revive our Nature Club activities in association with schools in the city,” Mr Prasad said. Youth Hostel has approached some schools to start the club and involve students in nature conservation activities.
