Inscribing a variety of tattoos on their faces, donning different roles in quick succession, and taking turns to deliver dialogues with precision, a group of 34 students has brought out the ordeal of animals through a playlet, ‘We Are The Dream’.
Presented on the concluding day of the 15-day storytelling and theatre workshop, ‘The Animal Trail’, hosted by The Launch Pad here on Wednesday, the tale opened new doors of learning for children as they were able to relate to the pain and suffering of the animals.
After charting out a series of themes such as ‘Fairy tales’, ‘Butterflies’, ‘Panchatantra’, and ‘The Life of Buddha’, The Launch Pad has come up with The Animal Trail as part of its fifth edition of the annual session.
“Our focus is to create better awareness among children on the magnitude of animal abuse. The response is quite overwhelming and has caught the attention of Delhi Public School, Visakhapatnam branch, where we are organising another workshop for schoolchildren. As a step towards ending the inhuman treatment of animals and as part of our future activities, we would like to conduct similar programmes in various schools across the city, partnering with Humane Society International (HSI),” says Sangitaa Sehgall, founder and master trainer of The Launch Pad. SI has been creating awareness against cruelty to animals across the world by partnering with local organisations.
After distributing storybooks and certificates to the participants, Navamita Mukherjee of the HSI says, “In line with our outreach programme, this is the first time that we have stepped into the city. Our objective is to encourage people to do their bit to control cruelty to animals through innovative methods like digital presentations, creative writing, face painting, and fashion shows.”
The second theatre workshop of The Launch Pad is all set to begin from May 18.
