‘Indradhanush’ second phase begins today

October 07, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:53 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

The second phase of Mission Indradhanush, a Central Government programme to ensure vaccination of as many children (0-2 age group) and pregnant women as possible, would be held from Wednesday.

Children or pregnant women who missed even one dose of vaccine during the first phase held between April and July would be covered under this phase.

In all, 979 children and 193 pregnant women have been identified. “Apart from regular immunisation programme held during the week-end, a total of 511 immunisation sessions — 253 in tribal areas, 114 in urban, and 144 in rural — have been planned on October 8, 9, 12, 13, 15 and 16,” DHMO J. Sarojini said at a press conference on Tuesday. AP’s performance as far as immunisation is concerned is good. It has registered 78 per cent compared to the nation’s average of 65 per cent.

It was also found during a survey that 15 per cent of children from the rich and educated families, who are generally not expected to miss the immunisation, have not been vaccinated for various reasons.

District Immunisation Officer Vijayalakshmi, Surveillance Medical Officer Gopalakrisihna, and Unicef representative Manmadha were present.
