Former Municipal Chairperson of Srikakulam M.V. Padmavati on Monday said elimination of poverty in the country was possible only with the Congress governments as the party was always committed to the uplift of the downtrodden sections. She said several schemes, including the 20-point programme, launched during the Indira Gandhi regime, reduced the poverty and provided economic stability to crores of families in the country.

Indira Gandhi's childhood, her role in Independence movement, attachment with Mahatma Gandhiji and the bold steps taken as a Prime Minister of the country were explained in the film to the Congress activists.
Ms. Padmavati, chief guest of the function said, “Nationalisation of banks and enactment of various laws to benefit the downtrodden sections changed the country's scenario,” she said.
