Indigenous gas turbine test facility inaugurated

Vice Admiral N.N. Kumar was in the city on his farewell visit to the Eastern Naval Command

An indigenously designed gas turbine test facility was inaugurated at INS Eksila here for testing and overhaul of gas turbine engines of Indian Navy ships by Chief of Material, Integrated Headquarters, Ministry of Defence (Navy) Vice Admiral N.N. Kumar on Monday.

The Flag Officer also inaugurated a System Support Facility at Naval Dockyard (Visakhapatnam), for diagnostics, repair, testing, tuning and calibration of machinery control systems of various classes of ships.

Vice Admiral N.N. Kumar was here on his farewell visit to the Eastern Naval Command. The Chief of Materiel called on Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief Eastern Naval Command Vice Admiral Anil Chopra and visited various technical establishments of the Command, according to a release issued here.

Commissioned in the Indian Navy on April 1, 1974, the Admiral has been at the helm of technical, maintenance and logistics issues of the Navy for nearly 18 months and will be retiring this month end.

Extensive exposure

In a career spanning four decades, Vice Admiral N.N. Kumar has had an extensive exposure to a wide variety of technically challenging assignments.

As a Flag Officer, Admiral Kumar has held several prestigious and important appointments such as Admiral Superintendent of Naval Dockyard (Mumbai), Director General (WESEE) and Controller of Warship Production and Acquisition.
