Indira Gandhi National Open University’s regional centre here is planning to open nearly 10 study centres in different districts under its jurisdiction.
“Reputed institutions in our area have been approached and we are likely to open three or four study centres during this academic year. Coordinator, guest faculty and support staff will be from colleges or universities where we open study centres and IGNOU is liberal in their payment,” Regional Director of IGNOU S. Raja Rao said on Wednesday.
The study centres are being planned at Amalapuram, Tuni and Rampachodavaram in East Godavari; Tadepalligudem and Jangareddygudem in West Godavari; Rajam and Naira in Srikakulam district and Anakapalle in Visakhapatnam district. A study centre will be opened in Yanam, a part of Puducherry, which has been transferred from Chennai to Visakhapatnam Regional Centre recently.
Balaram, regional administrator of Yanam, is extending a lot of cooperation and the study centre will be established at Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Government Degree College.
School of agriculture programmes would be introduced at the study centre to be set up at ANGRAU’s agriculture college at Naira in subjects like organic farming, dairy technology, poultry farming and agriculture policy. Associate Dean of ANGRAU at Naira College has formed a committee to chalk out the process of establishing a study centre. The Bhagavatula Charitable Trust has also been approached for introducing agriculture courses.
IGNOU regional centre here found that many sailors are joining the undergraduate degree courses like B.A. “It is a pleasant surprise for us that 70 per cent of them continue with the PG programmes,” Dr. Raja Rao said.IGNOU has introduced diploma in critical care nursing, certificate in newborn and infant care and certificate course in maternal and child health nursing, all at the Omni RK Hospital Study Centre and PG diploms in applied statistics and analytical chemistry at Dr. L. Bullayya College and M.V.R. Degree College, Gajuwaka, respectively.
Last date for applying these courses and all other courses online or offline is December 31 without late fee and January 15, 2016 with a late fee of Rs. 300.
