‘VPT spending own funds for repairs’

Visakhapatnam Port has initiated measures to repair the damages it suffered during Cyclone Hudhud with internal resources.

In reply to a question raised by local MP K. Haribabu in Lok Sabha, Union Minister of State for Shipping Pon Radhakrishnan said on Thursday that the port loss was estimated at Rs.124.15 crore.

The cyclone damaged offshore tanker terminal, south breakwater and other infrastructure.

The Minister said Dredging Corporation of India’s damage was confined to its administrative building.

The loss is estimated at Rs.22.15 lakh.

He said the Centre had not extended any assistance for damage repairs.
