‘House panel will recommend ₹300 cr. for city railway station’

Waste disposal is being done scientifically, DRM tells Chairman

Parliamentary Committee on Subordinate Legislation Chairman T. Subbarami Reddy has said that he would recommend for the sanction of ₹300 crore for the development Visakhapatnam railway station. The panel visited the city railway station on Wednesday and inspected the solid and plastic waste management.

P.S. Mishra, General Manager, SE Railway, who is also the in-charge of East Coast Railway and Waltair Divisional Railway Manager M.S. Mathur received the delegation. The panel Chairman inquired about the segregation of waste and its disposal. The DRM said adequate dustbins had been provided at public places and at all vending units and the garbage was being handed over to the GVMC daily.

He also explained that Waltair Division had taken several initiatives such as water bottle crushers, bio-decompose green bins and effluent treatment plants. Display boards against littering and ban on plastic were also displayed to create awareness among the travelling public, apart from frequent announcements on the public address system.

Mr. Subbarami Reddy appreciated the efforts of the railway administration to improve the passengers’ amenities at the station. Earlier, the GM and Principal Heads inspected the railway station. They appreciated the creative art gallery at the station. They inspected the food court Rail Dhaba, Janahar, executive lounge and other facilities on platform number 8 of the station. Senior Divisional Commercial Manager G. Suneel Kumar was present.

Cancer hospital

Mr. Subbarami Reddy also said that he would see that ₹400 crore is released for the development of cancer hospital. According to him, the Union Ministry of Atomic Energy is planning to set up four cancer hospitals across the county and one has been earmarked for Visakhapatnam, which is temporarily being run from a make-shift campus in association with the Tata Institute at Agnampudi, he said.

“Once fully functional, the hospital will treat cancer patients from BPL segment free of cost,” he said.

Mr. Subbarami Reddy said that he was not at all happy with the pollution level in city.
