National Agriculture Bank for Rural Development Chief General Manager P. Mohanaiah has launched the ‘Tribal Health Project’ covering a population of 25,000 in 100 tribal hamlets being implemented by an NGO, Green Vision at Dumbriguda village in the Visakha Agency on Saturday. Addressing Maa Thota farmers and representatives of NGO working with NABARD on the occasion, he said NABARD’s intervention on the health front was mainly to create awareness on several diseases, including malarial fevers confronting them during rainy season and provide first aid and referral services to the tribal people who come in contact with the health mission.
He also interacted with farmers of Maa Thota project who shared several success stories with him. The project was being implemented by Vikasa, another NGO which is successfully reaching out to the farmers through the novel scheme. Mr. Mohanaiah said the district occupied a pride of place in implementation of the horticulture project in the State. Earlier, president of Green Vision Prabhakar said his organisation would create awareness on malaria, tuberculosis, infant mortality and on the need for institutional delivery for effectively monitoring the health of the baby to be born.
Vikasa chairman P. Visvanatham said Maa Thota had been changing the economic landscape of farmers and their villages turning into ‘model villages’ triggering in a lot of economic activity and building leadership in the villages. Kovel Foundation chief executive officer V. Krishna Rao, who is also implementing multiple tribal welfare projects in the district, said NABARD gave leadership, direction, and impetus for tribal community development during the past couple of years.
Srujana secretary V. Haranath Mehar, Teri State coordinator V.V.K.B.N. Murthy, NABARD’s Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam districts Assistant General Managers E. Sreenivas and Prasad were present.
