Thirteen per cent of the city population opt for bottled water while the low class people, who cannot afford to buy water, go for cloth purification. These were some of the observations of a survey done by India Youth For Society. In order to highlight the importance of clean drinking water and to address issues about the growing culture of bottled water, the society held a road show at GVMC on the occasion of World Water Day on Saturday.
“Water resources are limited and people must be sensitive to wastage of water,” said M Jagadish, secretary, India Youth For Society.
He said GVMC supplied water regularly yet people would buy water. With the sale of bottled water increasing day by day, getting safe and clean drinking water had become a necessity, he said.
The team met the GVMC Commissioner with a request letter for provision of clean water. K Venkata Ramana, Ramprabhu, Saripalli Satish, Ajit and other members of the society participated in the event.
