‘Govt. committed to welfare of fishermen, says Minister

Tourism Minister Muttamsetti Srinivasa Rao on Thursday said the State government was committed to improving the socio-economic development of fishermen.

Speaking at functions held in connection with the World Fisheries Day and district level launching of enhanced compensation of ₹10,000 to fishermen for loss of income during the annual fishing ban and increase in diesel subsidy from ₹6.03 to ₹9 per litre, he said Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy had finalised a timeframe for the implementation of various welfare measures promised in the election manifesto of the YSRCP.

Mr. Rao took part in functions held at Pudimadaka and Mangamaripeta. Earlier, fishermen of Bhimili took out a rally to celebrate the day. The Minister said the government was extending diesel subsidy to more fishermen.
