The Google has launched its ‘Neighbourly App’ for the citizens of Visakhapatnam and four other cities, after the encouraging response to the app in Mumbai and Jaipur.

The app helps the users get answers to all types of local queries related to shopping, fitness, food recommendations, tuition centres and other subjects. For every question, it gives on an average four relevant answers.

The app was launched in Vizag, along with Ahmedabad, Mysore, Coimbatore and Kota on Wednesday, after a detailed research and user testing for several months.

Local language

The dynamics of the city attracted Google’s Next Billion Users’ Team which conducted a series of studies and spoke to the smart phone users at rythu bazaars, Visalakshi Nagar, Madhurawada and Gajuwaka.

The users can ask the questions in local language, said Group Product Manager of Google’s Next Billion Users’ Team Josh Woodward.

“We are seeing people in different age groups in Mumbai and Jaipur using the app in interesting ways to find answers to everyday queries about their neighbourhood. With the app, we are able to address the local information needs of India’s fast growing internet users,” he said.

He further said they were excited about the adoption and early engagement of the app and looking forward to providing a useful experience to the citizens.

The latest version of the app provides three updates such as enhanced voice input, quick replies and multiple answers.

The beta version of the ‘Neighbourly App’ is available on the Google Playstore. It can be downloaded to all smart phones with the versions of Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean) and higher.
