Good HR practices hold the key: dairy chief

Transforming A. P. into another Singapore impractical, says A. Tulasi Rao

Visakha Dairy Chairman A. Tulasi Rao on Saturday said the performance of an organisation could be maximised if the management ensured high motivation level among its workforce.

He was speaking at a conference on recent issues in labour laws and best HR practices organised here by Vizag HR Managers’ Association.

Mr. Rao said as part of successful HR management, the stakeholders in a project should be involved actively. He said for him welfare of the workforce and farmers had always remained important to manage Visakha Dairy efficiently.

He said he had always followed the principle of participatory decision-making in right earnest and Visakha Dairy, due to its HR practices, had become a success story among cooperative institutes.

He mentioned some of the welfare measures launched by the dairy management such as construction of a multi-speciality hospital for dairy workers and farmers and building bridges and reservoirs. Mr. Rao said he believed in local solutions to local problems instead of indulging in empty rhetoric. He described as impractical the talk of transforming Andhra Pradesh into another Singapore.

RINL Director (Personnel) G.B.S. Prasad said some of the labour laws that dated back to the pre-Independence era should be changed keeping in view the requirements of present day.

Dr. Prasad said benchmarking was important to implement best HR practices of the world. Citing the HR practices followed at Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, he said welfare and team work were the important characteristics of HR policy. Joint Chief Inspector of Factories D. Chandrasekhar Varma said HR officials should enhance their competence level by studying the best practices.

Future Group vice president (HR) M.V.S. Murthy, Supreme Court lawyer Rajiv Shukla and advocate of the High Court of Telangana and AP C. Niranjan Rao spoke.
