Gobarapada encounter case

Two brothers of Karlapodar village under Lakshmipuram Panchyat in Munchingput mandal, who were taken away from their homes by the Maoists on Wednesday night, were released on Friday. According to information reaching here, vice-Sarpanch of Lakshipuram Vanthala Dhanunjaya and Saakshar Bharat coordinator Vanthala Neelakantha were picked up by a group of Maoists from their homes. Despite the pleas of the villagers, the Maoists tied the bothers up and took them to a nearby hill, saying that the duo would be tried in a Praja Court for being police informers. They suspected the brothers’ involvement in the Gobarapada encounter some time ago in which a Maoist was killed. However, the locals on Thursday tried to convince the Maoists that the two brothers were innocent. The brothers were later released and they reached their village on Friday.
