GITAM to offer course in social science

GITAM University is offering an undergraduate course in human sciences as part of becoming a full-fledged university. The course in social sciences will empower the student to be a more socially conscious citizen and also effectively face competitive examinations.

In the interdisciplinary programme the student would be exposed to fundamentals of various academic disciplines like economics, psychology and sociology. The students graduating from this course would be able to do post-graduation in these subjects. They would be eminently suited to appear for the competitive examinations for the civil services, Koneru Ramakrishna Rao, Chancellor of GITAM University, told media here on Thursday. “The course is being offered as a social responsibility and the university plans to charge low fee to enable students from all sections to study it,” he said. It would be conducted in a semester pattern. It would lay the foundation for inclusive growth of the mind and the person, prepare the students to a career as social scientists, civil servants and social workers to conscientiously serve the country and humanity, he said. The students undergoing the course would have access to all the facilities in the university like any other student. Basic qualification is a minimum 60 per cent in 10+2. Reservations would be applicable as per the guidelines of the Government of India, Vice-Chancellor G. Subrahmanyam said.
