Girijan hostels in plain areas mooted

October 31, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:48 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

Girijans are attached more to their land and village, which is hampering their development. If Tribal Welfare Department hostels are established in the plain areas, they would mix more with people of the plain area and develop more. This was the opinion of Collector N. Yuvaraj during an interaction with Chairman S. Chellappa and Members of the Telangana Government’s Commission on Scheduled Tribes. Commission Members K. Jagannadha Rao and K. Nagu, and Secretary K. Veeramallu were among those who met the Collector.

The Committee is visiting the Girijan areas in Andhra Pradesh to examine the social and economic status of the Valmiki tribe and its cultural and traditional practices following a demand in that State to include Valmikis in the ST list.
