Four persons of a family, including a woman, were killed when a lorry hit their car on the National Highway-16 near Madhurawada in the early hours of Friday.
The deceased were identified as S. Madhava Rao (55), Mohini (45), S. Dileep (21), and Jagadeesh Goud (25).
Another family member S. Nehru and lorry driver Ramana, who were severely injured, were admitted to KGH.
Hailing from Gudari of Rayagada in Odisha, they were coming to the city to attend a marriage.
Due to ongoing repair works between Madhurawada and Marikavalasa on NH-16, the NHAI authorities closed two lanes and permitted motorists to use the other two lanes. “Caution boards have been put up alerting motorists to go slow,” according to ACP (Traffic) Madhurawada, M. Srinivas.
