Folk artistes took out a rally to the Collectorate on Thursday demanding issue of identity cards to ‘dappu’ artistes and issue of pensions.

The artistes, holding placards, said there were ‘dappu’ artistes in all villages in the district.

These artistes were propagating the programmes of the government but were not receiving any assistance or concessions from the latter.

They noted that the Sate government had announced ₹1,500 as pension to ‘dappu’ artistes, who crossed 50 years of age, recently.

But as ID cards were not issued, eligible artistes were unable to receive pension amount.

Their other demands include: sanction of houses and land and travel concession in RTC buses and trains.
