Ever since last year’s general elections, there has been a visible change in the mindset of people. By casting their vote, many say that it is their responsibility to elect the right government and bring about a change in the overall development of the country. On the National Voters’ Day, young voters are of the opinion that they are all the more responsible after participating in the electoral process, which has inspired them to think beyond their limited world.
Those who have been staying away from the electoral arena for more reasons than one, are now in a different thought process altogether.
Good governance
“We wanted to bring a change in the governance by casting our vote. Last year, when we exercised our franchise, we were keen on a couple of things. Firstly, we wanted transparency in the system. Secondly, we wanted a stable leader with effective administrative skills who can lead by example. Today, we feel more than happy to see how the cyclone-ravaged city had shown signs of recovery in a matter of a week,” says K. Murali Mohan, a postgraduate student of Andhra University.
Post bifurcation of the State, some of the voters hoped for a bright future.
“For the last couple of years, educational institutions have been badly hit due to Samaikyandhra agitation, bifurcation of the State, and cyclone Hudhud. Hope nothing of that sort will disrupt our academic life in future,” says M. Gayatri, a student.
“I have always been waiting for my turn to cast the vote. After exercising my franchise last year, it is all the more responsible on my part to contribute to society to the extent possible. ,” says Reshma P. Jain, a first-time voter.
