After a long lull, there has been some effort to pick up the threads on the proposed flyover at NAD Kotha Road.

VUDA has invited bids for taking up the flyover work on Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) basis.

“The offer inviting bids has been put on the website on July 7 and August 21 is the last date for making the bids,” VUDA Vice-Chairman P Basanth Kumar told The Hindu .

With traffic heavy at NAD and a large number of people commuting from Gopalapatnam, Pendurti side and Gajuwaka to the city and the national highway running through it, the demand for a flyover at NAD has been pending for a long time. The wait at the signals is too long and in rush hours traffic stretches up to half a km.

After coming to power, the TDP government had announced that construction of the flyover would be taken up and entrusted the task to VUDA.

But the proposal for taking up work on the flyover has been hanging fire with the finalisation of design taking time.

An agency selected by VUDA after calling for Expression of Interest (EoI) had suggested four designs out of which the Collector in consultation with various government departments and experts selected one.

However, a reputed private construction company has come up with another design and it has been put on VUDA’s website along with the one finalised after consultations for public opinion in January. But now VUDA has invited only EPC proposals.

“Now it is open to any construction company or contractor to come up with designs with technological innovation and EPC proposals,” says Mr. Basanth Kumar.

The received proposals will be placed before the technical committee for approval.

VUDA has to raise the ₹150 crore estimated to complete the construction and may seek support from Central Government agencies for the purpose.

The government is firm on its completion by the end of December 2018, says the Vice-Chairman.
