Engineering student dies in accident

An engineering student was killed on the spot and two others sustained severe injuries when the motorcycle they were riding was hit by a lorry near the Peda Naidupalem area under Sabbavaram police station limits in the district in the early hours of Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Ganta Srikanth (21), a final-year B.Tech student of a private engineering college and a native of Prathipadu in Guntur district.

The injured were B. Gopinath and Ch. Pardasaradi, both final B. Tech students of the same college.

A group of friends, all B. Tech final year students, had gone to Tekkapalem near Sabbavaram on Friday evening to attend a marriage. On their way back, Srikanth, Gopinath, and Pardasaradi were triple riding the motorcycle.

The rider of the bike tried to overtake a lorry but did not notice another lorry coming in the opposite direction and collided with it.

Srikanth sustained severe head injuries and died on the spot. Gopinath and Pardasaradi were critically injured. They were admitted to King George Hospital.

Sabbavaram Assistant SI Dayanidhi said that a case was registered and investigation was on.
