Engineering student commits suicide

An engineering student committed suicide by consuming pesticide in his room at P.M. Palem.

M. Aravind Babu (21) of Guntur, was doing third year B. Tech at a private college near Gambeeram. He was in love with a girl and reportedly went into a depression after she turned down his proposal. He consumed pesticide in his room around 9 p.m. on Wednesday and informed his friends about it.

His friends were shocked and rushed to his room. They got him shifted to a private hospital and from there to the King George Hospital (KGH), where he died soon after admission late in the night. P.M. Palem Inspector K. Venkata Rao is investigating the case.

Ganja seized

The Prohibition and Excise sleuths seized 70 kg dry ganja and arrested three persons including a woman at Nellimetta near Narsipatnam in the district on Thursday.

The accused Jonnagedda Suresh (31) and Saramma (28) of Vijayawada and Jartha Rambabu (22) of Chintapalli in Vizag Agency were making arrangements for transporting the ganja to Vijayawada, when they were arrested by Excise SIs Rajesh and Phanindra under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
