Women are competing with men in all spheres and proving their mettle, Minister for Tribal Welfare P. Balaraju has said.

Participating as chief guest at a programme organised by the District Women and Child Welfare Department at the Zilla Parishad hall here on Thursday, he said women were playing multifaceted roles in daily life as a mother, sister and wife. The rich traditions followed by Indian women had earned them the respect of people living across the globe.

Expressing concern at the growing number of suicides among women, Mr. Balaraju asked women not to despair but put up a brave face in tackling adversities of life.

He said that eligible Anganwadi workers would be promoted as supervisors in the near future.

Additional Joint Collector S. Satyanarayana called upon women to tune themselves to the changes occurring in the course of globalisation. He said that a survey has revealed that infant mortality was high in the agency areas and called upon medical officers and Anganwadi workers to work with dedication to reverse the trend. Deputy Director of the District Women and Child Welfare Department P. Anasuya explained about the ‘Sabala' programme being implemented by the department to provide nutritious food to women.
