Gynaecologists, who participated in a two-day workshop on ‘Office hysteroscopy’, organised by Padmasri Hospitals recently, had a unique opportunity to get hands-on training in using the revolutionary tool as also to interact with its inventor Osama Shawki, professor from Cairo University.
The modern device – office hysteroscope – fitted with a micro camera simplifies the investigation and diagnosis of gynaecological disorders and diseases. A breakthrough in the field of gynaecology, the tool equipped with a thin, lighted tube is inserted into the vagina to examine the cervix and inside of the uterus. The footage captured by the micro camera can be seen on a computer monitor.
Dr. Shawki, credited with the invention and design of several instruments in the field of operative endoscopy, struck right chord among gynaecologists at the inaugural of the two-day workshop, when he said: “It is never about how many skills you have but how many skills you give to others, which is important”.
The best thing with office hysteroscope is that it enables the doctor to see everything inside on the computer screen and treat the case based on the problem.
Dr. Shawki treated women patients, who had registered for participation in the camp, at Padmasri Hospital during the two days and in the process introduced the doctors to get hands-on-experience in operating the new tool.
“Visakhapatnam was one among the eight major cities in India to have been selected as venues during Dr. Shawki’s tour to train local doctors,” said medical director of the hospital Sudha Padmasri.
