Speakers at a workshop on women’s safety organised by the Women Development and Child Welfare Department and District Rural Development Agency opened the session in an emotional note.
They shared how a woman prefers to remain silent rather than expressing the dark shades of abuse right from her childhood.
The workshop attended by Additional Joint Collector Y. Narasimha Rao, Project Director of District Women and Child Development Agency A.E. Roberts, Women Commission member Kasturi, ACP D.N. Mahesh, Ratna Kumari of Dr. Durgabai Deshmukh Centre for Women’s Studies Women Cell, Inspector of Police Bangaru Papa, among others, highlighted the waning Indian culture.
Ethical values
They said: “With nuclear families being the trend, the present generation children lack ethical values and discipline. More than anything else, it is essential to provide children with value-based education system, spend quality time, and create awareness on gender sensitivity. In doing so, we can collectively place a check on the incidence of violence against women.”
They underlined the need to be cultured and self-disciplined. “Education starts from home. It is a collective effort where parents and teachers should involve and help children inculcate mutual respect and healthy bonding between them,” they concluded.
