Senior citizens and students actively participated in a discussion on the subject ‘Current trends and corruption of IAS officers' at Gayatri Vidhya Parishad college here on Saturday.

In his address, former Mayor D.V. Subba Rao called for total overhaul of the system of governance for tackling corruption. He said that employees in the government and students should take a pledge against corruption every morning before they get to work. Patriotism in children should be kindled to carry out the fight against corruption to its logical end.

Several students including Chaitanya, Gayatri and Manasa spoke vociferously against corrupt practices in society including those of a section of IAS officers. They said that they would be interested in participating in the campaign against corruption if elders provided them the leadership.

The students opined that mothers who were instrumental in moulding children's character should take the lead in spearheading a campaign against corruption. The students also spoke of parents and children at the family level taking a oath against corruption and to fight such tendencies of political leadership. The primary school children also should be involved in the campaign. Students should be galvanised into action by providing the needed impetus to them. BCT founder B.V. Parameswara Rao coordinated the discussion.

The participants later formed a seven-member committee with D.V. Subba Rao, Soma Raju, Parameswara Rao, Bhavaraju Subbarao and three others to initiate the campaign against corruption.

The committee will be broad based by involving students from other colleges and representatives from the cross section of the society. The committee members decided to meet on Monday and also hold another meeting with students to give a proper shape to the movement.
