A sudden downpour caught people of the city unawares on Friday morning.

Many of the roads and low-lying areas in the Old Town area were inundated. Rain water flooded the main roads, lanes, and by-lanes, and even entered the houses. Slum-dwellers had to wade through knee-deep water. Residents were seen draining the water out of their rooms.

Roads in the Poorna Market area, Velampeta, Bowdara Road, and Chavulamadum were flooded and motorists faced hardship in wading through the water. Rain water got stagnated at some places on the National Highway.

Candidates who attended web counselling for admission into EAMCET-2015 had a tough time at the Government Institute of Chemical Engineering as rain water overflowed outside the counselling centre.

Forecast

Meanwhile, the upper air circulation over north-west and adjoining west central Bay of Bengal, off South Odisha and North Coastal A.P., persists.

A trough on surface level extends from Vidarbha to South Tamil Nadu coast across Telangana and South Coastal A.P., according to a spokesman of the Cyclone Warning Centre here.

Under its influence, rain or thunder showers will occur at many places with isolated heavy falls over Coastal AP during the next 24 hours. Conditions are favourable for further advance of the South West monsoon over A.P. during the next few days.
