Discom application system to go online

The consumer can file the application from home, any net centre or even through a smart phone, says R. Mutyala Raju CMD of APEPDCL.

As part of its customer-friendly initiatives, Andhra Pradesh Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited (APEPDCL) will be launching the online application system in the next 15 days.

Once the system becomes operational, customers need not go to a call centre run by the discom or to any Meeseva Kendra to submit an application. He or she can log in to the discom’s official website, register and fill in the application and attach the scanned copies of indemnity bond and wiring completion certificate. “The consumer can file the application from home, any net centre or even through a smart phone. The original documents can be handed over at the time of release of the connection,” said R. Mutyala Raju, Chairman and Managing Director of APEPDCL, in during chat with The Hindu.

The discom has earlier, reduced the bulky application form to a single-page application format and has restricted the documents to be attached to just two certificates from seven.

APEPDCL will also be launching the mobile app in a week’s time.

The app is being developed on an Android platform by the discom’s IT team, and any mobile user with a smart phone can download the app.

According to the CMD, the app will facilitate the payment of bill from anywhere in the world, enable consumers to know the current meter reading and particulars of previous bills, use the energy calculator to analyse the consumption of power by different gadgets at home and also ascertain the status of complaints and service connection application.

The IT team is also developing a programme to register complaints through SMS messaging. “One can send their complaints to our toll- free number 1912, through SMS. The idea is to simplify the systems for the 52 lakh consumers,” said Mr. Mutyala Raju.

APEPDCL launched the ‘Dial your CMD’ on Monday. On the first day, 39 callers called up.
