The blueprint for India’s first Centre for Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3) being set up here by the Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY), Ministry of Communications and IT has been finalised.
Central Public Works Department has commenced work on construction of the boundary wall in 13 acres allotted by APIIC at Gambheeram – adjoining the site earmarked for Indian Institute of Management-Visakhapatnam. CPWD has finalised the design and estimates for the buildings.
Approvals from Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority are expected in four to five months. For construction work in phase-I, an estimated Rs.12 crore will be spent, sources told The Hindu . Union Minister for Communications and IT Ravi Shankar Prasad and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu are expected to take part in the ‘bhoomi puja’.
The R&D lab will come up under the aegis of Society for Applied Microwave Electronics Engineering and Research (SAMEER), an autonomous body under DeitY with a total investment of Rs.80 crore. It will study electromagnetic interference in all the electronic devices and instruments starting from mobile phones to submarines and aircraft.
Sources in SAMEER said along with the construction work, they would also initiate measures to procure equipment so as to make the project operational in a year or year-and-a-half.
