Stating that the AP Legislature Public Accounts Committee had exposed the irregularities in land allotments, the CPI (M) on Friday demanded a CBI inquiry into the allotments made in the last 10 years.
All allotments be stopped forthwith and the government should take back the lands, CPI(M) district and city secretaries respectively, Ch. Narsinga Rao and B. Ganga Rao, demanded at a press conference here on Friday. Since the PAC had questioned the Hinduja power corporation, its construction also be stopped, they demanded.
The two leaders questioned the justification for the land allotments when the companies that had received the land were not providing employment.
While house sites were denied to the poor, Wipro had been given prime land in the heart of the city but it had not provided any employment, they alleged.
Similarly, Brandix Apparel India got 1,000 acres of land at a throwaway price but was using only 500 acres. Against its commitment of providing jobs to 60,000 persons, it employed only 10,000 as cheap labour paying meagre salaries, Mr. Narsinga Rao pointed out.
The PAC itself had stated that 22,000 acres of land was allotted, he said and recalled that by GO Ms.No.1041, the government was taking back 25,563 acres of assigned land in 18 mandals from poor farmers who had put in a lot of effort to make it cultivable and was trying to allot to big companies, he alleged. Similarly, notices had been issued for another 6,107 acres in the name of Nakkapalli SEZ and demanded that the two GOs be cancelled.
Mr. Narsinga Rao alleged that Ministers and ruling party leaders and their benamis had a lion’s share in the land scandals.
