Court directive to authorities on statues

February 22, 2012 03:02 pm | Updated 03:02 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

A division bench of the High Court of Andhra Pradesh, comprising Chief Justice Madan B. Lokur and Justice P. V. Sanjay Kumar, on Tuesday directed the authorities concerned to submit a status report on the allegations that statues of late political leaders were erected without permission in the middle of the road in the green belt area of Visakhapatnam city within two weeks.

The orders were passed while the Bench was dealing with a plea by Ch. Ayyanna Patrudu, former minister and TDP leader.

He contended that authorities remained mute spectators and had allowed the political parties to erect statues in the middle of the road, in violation of rules and regulations.

The bench took serious view of the action of the authorities in not filing counter affidavit and imposed costs of Rs. 5,000.
