Couple throws 6-day-old baby girl to death

March 25, 2013 10:46 am | Updated 10:46 am IST - ANANTAPUR:

A carpenter from Guntakal and his wife shocked local residents on Sunday morning when they simply flung their six-day-old daughter to death from the top floor of a hospital where she was born. They apparently did not want another girl child because their earlier issue was a girl who is now two years old.

The carpenter, M. Gaffar Khan, and his wife, Rahima Begum, who are residents of Potters Line in the railway town, were stated to be so upset over the birth of the baby girl when they desperately hoped for a boy that on Sunday morning, they went to the top of the nursing home and resorted to the gory crime. At about 9 a.m., local people who saw the little one in a pool of blood raised a hue and cry and even as a crowd gathered, Rahima Begum started wailing and the couple accused the nurse on duty of committing the crime. However, during interrogation, his wife is stated to have confessed to the ghastly act.

The horrific incident comes within a week of a man indulging in a similar act of throwing his daughter into a dried-up well for the same reason in Ranga Reddy district.
