After an agonisingly long wait, the sight of grey skies on Tuesday and cool drizzle brought in the much-needed respite from the sweltering heat that had gripped the city in the past couple of weeks.

Vizagites took to social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter to upload pictures of Beach Road with cloudy skies welcoming the change in weather with ecstasy.

The regular morning walkers set out on Beach Road to experience the cool weather notwithstanding the drizzle and windy climate.

With temperatures hovering around the 40 degree Celsius mark in the past month, the rains and cloudy skies lifted the hopes of people for the onset of Southwest Monsoon in the region.

DJ Deep Bhamra, who was back in his hometown from Chennai for a short break, said: “The only thing I wished for while coming to Vizag from Chennai was this weather where I wake up in the morning to the sounds of rain and enjoy the amazing wind-rain combo throughout the day. The rain and cozy weather experience of Vizag is a magic that no other place in the country can offer. I’m glad my wish was granted.”

The Irani chai stalls dotting the beach road till Tenneti Park witnessed good rush in the evenings with many turning up to enjoy the cool weather over a cup of tea. “We don’t see such rush on week days. Tuesday’s weather brought in good business for us,” said a tea vendor.

Meanwhile, IMD has predicted the conditions to be favourable for the further advancement of the Southwest Monsoon in Rayalseema and South Coastal Andhra Pradesh during the next three days.

Speaking to The Hindu , director of Cyclone Warning Centre Ramachandra Rao said, “Tuesday’s rain was due to upper air cyclonic circulation over North Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and West Central Bay of Bengal. Rain or thundershowers are expected to occur in coastal AP for the next 24 hours.”

“Pre monsoon showers will be very good in Araku and other Agency areas of the district,” he said.
