As a part of the State-wide agitation and following call given by PCC, City Congress on Friday blocked traffic on the national highway at Maddilapalem here.

PCC general secretary Dronamraju Srinivasa Rao, City Congress president Behera Bhaskara Rao, former VUDA Chairman P. S.N. Raju (Ravi) and Mahila Congress president Pedada Ramana Kumari led the cadres and stopped traffic on the highway for sometime.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Srinivasa Rao accused the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi of going back on promises made during bifurcation.

Special Category Status (SCS) was the foremost promise made at the Tirupati election meeting by Mr. Modi, he said. It was approved in the Cabinet and went to the Planning Commission. But the NDA Government took a U-turn, he said.

Congress was the only party capable of getting SCS and AICC president Rahul Gandhi had assured that the first signature of the Congress, if voted to power, would be to grant SCS to Andhra Pradesh, Mr. Srinivasa Rao said.
