City-based entrepreneurs have sought concerted effort to be made to bring big players to the city to make it a leading IT hub after Hyderabad.
They were airing their views at a CEO mentoring clinic conducted by the Vizagapatnam Chamber of Commerce and Industries (VCCI) on Friday evening. The clinic explained as to how right guidance and value addition at the right moment would help the entrepreneurs to compete well in a highly challenging business environment.
VCCI in association with DHL, Dare and the Credit Guarantee Fund Trust for Micro and Small Industries conducted the programme.
The speakers underlined the need for entry of big players like Wipro to enhance the brand value of the city as a destination for investment in IT. They pointed out that despite the hype only hundred-odd small IT companies were functioning with a total export turnover of around Rs 1,000 crores or so. VCCI president K. Ramabrahmam said VCCI set up in 1931 had been playing a key role in promoting entrepreneurship and economic growth.
It was also playing a proactive role in facilitating visits by business and trade delegations to the city.Visakhapatnam IT Association (VITA) president Peter Schneeberger said the progress made in IT sector as of now was not enough and much more encouragement was required to put Vizag on the world IT map.
Ravi Eswarapu of Pinafore Tech Solutions said availability of talented manpower was not at all a problem in Vizag. Those settled abroad would love to make a home-coming if Vizag developed into a premier IT centre, he opined.
Denzil George of DHL said their company, which acquired Blue Dart courier firm, was committed to help the small and micro industries as it would be mutually beneficial.
