Despite efforts by the police to prevent cockfights as part of Sankranti festivities, they were held at Arilova in the city and district. Two persons were taken into custody on Sunday for organising cockfights.

The police seized two cocks and ₹ 10,000 cash from them.

The police also conducted raids at some other places in the city and seized ₹ 35,000 from those indulging in gambling with playing cards. The police action did not deter the revellers from organising cockfights at some places in the city on Monday also.

Meanwhile, the Police conducted raids during the past few days and booked cases on 114 persons in 23 cases of cockfights and seized 61 roosters. They also booked cases on 51 persons in 11 cases for gambling with playing cards. A total of ₹ 94,559 was seized from them.
