City magician casts spell at Kuala Lumpur

Bags award at Asian Magic Convention

November 22, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:33 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

Magician B.S. Reddy of Visakhapatnam has won the ‘Best Illusion’ act award at the Asian Magic Convention held at Kuala Lumpur from November 6 to 18. Mr. Reddy was the only magician from India, who was chosen to participate in the convention, in which 600 renowned magicians from across the world participated. This is the first time that a magician from India has been chosen to participate in the event.

“I was selected on the basis of my winning the Magic Merlin Award from the International Magicians Society (USA) in 2014 and the promo on the ‘illusion act’ which I had submitted along with my entry,” said Mr. Reddy after his return from Malaysia.

The illusion act involves appearance of humans and inanimate objects like motorcycles out of thin air in a split second, without any elaborate change of backdrop as is mostly done by magicians in India. “The frequent change of sets and time involved in preparation is believed to be the reason for Indian magicians not being invited to the Asian Magic Convention in the past,” he said.

The Houdini Escape in which the magician is tied in a sack and kept in a wooden box and the lid is closed. The magician appears among the crowd in a split second and this performance of Mr. Reddy drew good response from the gathering in Kuala Lumpur.

“The Koreans were impressed by my performance, and took my consent for performing at the World Magic Art Carnival to be held in Korea on October 14, 2016.”
