Sir, please come this way, these paintings have been done by a student of Class VI, this by a student of Class VII, and that is by a student of Class VIII, say students, standing at a collection of paintings and drawings by pupils of Government Queen Mary Girls High School.

Eager volunteers explained how their fellow students, numbering 1,200, had worked hard to create the works of art that were put on display at the two-day exhibition that got under way on Wednesday.

The choice of colours and the ability to express themselves in simple lines showed celebration of life.

“The children have been working on their art works since August last year, and each of the 1,200 students has at least one work on display,” art teacher Anil Joshi said.

Matching in ingenuity and creativity are a few handicrafts on display. Lace display items, lace shawls, scarves, sweater, mats made of strips of old sarees, and thread work on discarded pressure cooker gaskets are just a few of the innovative items on display.

Students have showcased their dexterity and concentration in their samples of embroidery, all produced under the tutelage of crafts teacher Uma Lakshmi.

The affection of the teachers towards the students and their willingness to go that extra mile to see them happy were amply visible in the exhibition, school in-charge K Ramam said.

“All this has been possible because of the interest shown by our headmistress and assistant director Rama Jyoti,” he added.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Assistant Commissioner-Exams Rambabu.

A 91-year-old World War II veteran Konduru Jagannadha Rao donated two of his books to the library, apart from Rs. 10,000 to the school, Mr. Ramam said.

A number of students of Mrs. A.V.N. College High School and Urdu Medium primary school visited the exhibition.

The exhibition is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday too.
