Tourism Minister Muttamsetti Srinivasa Rao gave away cheques to the victims of AgriGold scam who had deposited up to ₹10,000 here on Thursday.
About 52,000 people who had deposited up to ₹10,000 each will be given away a total of ₹42 crore. The YSRCP government is committed to bail out the victims,” Mr. Srinivasa rao said after distributing the cheques at a programme at Gurajada Kalakshetram.
The Minister said that Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy was fulfilling the promises he had made during his padayatra in the run-up to the elections.
“A fund of ₹1,150 crore has been allocated towards the compensation to the AgriGold victims, despite the difficult financial situation the government is enduring,” he said, adding that 260 victims had ended their lives following the scandal.
Collector V. Vinay Chand said after a thorough scrutiny by the District Judge, the compensation amounts would be credited into the bank accounts of the victims.
Welfare schemes
Referring to the welfare programmes launched by the government within months after it assumed the office, the Minister said housing to the poor and education were among the top priorities of the government.
Participating in the programme, Government Whip B. Mutyala Naidu said the YSRCP government had fulfilled 80 % of the promises the party had made in its manifesto.
MP M.V.V. Satyanaryana exuded confidence that the government’s effort would help the AgriGold victims recoup from the loss they had suffered.
VMRDA Chairman Dronamraju Srinivasa Rao, Payakaraopeta MLA Golla Babu Rao and Municipal Commissioner G. Srijana also spoke on the occasion.
