A charred body of a woman was found near Narava here on in the wee hours of Friday. According to police, the identity of the victim is yet to be ascertained as the body has been burnt beyond recognition.
However, they say that the victim is presumed to be a married woman aged around 30 and she was murdered before her body was set on fire. A group of grass-cutters found the body burning at around 4.30 a.m. and alerted a few morning walkers and subsequently, the police.
“The body was found in a vacant layout around 100 metre away from the road connecting Kothapalem and Narava. The remnants of clothes on the charred body suggest that the victim was a fashionable woman,” said DCP (Zone-II) T. Ravi Kumar Murthy.
Sources said that the cops had collected the footage of a CCTV camera installed at a missionary school near the scene of crime.
The footage shows a car stopping by near the spot at around 2.15 a.m. and the body in flames at 2.48 a.m., the sources said.
“We are yet to examine the CCTV footage and other details. The body has been sent for post-mortem to ascertain the possible cause of death and that whether or not the victim was sexually assaulted before being killed,” said Mr. Ravi Kumar Murthy.
Pendurthi police has registered a case and investigation is on.
