Ch. Srikanth, an IPS officer of the 2002 batch, took charge as the new Commissioner of Police, Visakhapatnam city, here on Sunday. He was previously working as Inspector General of Police, SIB.

Speaking to newsmen, Mr. Srikanth said that he was well aware of Visakhapatnam having grown up here and working as an Officer on Special Duty (OSD), Narsipatnam, between 2002 and 2008 and Deputy Inspector General (Visakha Range) from 2016 to 2019.

Describing Vizagites as peace loving citizens, he said that all out efforts would be made to ensure peace. Mr. Srikanth said that traffic issues, women’s safety and controlling cyber crimes would be his top priorities.

“With the increase in number of vehicles over the past few years and without major road extension works, traffic issues have been an issue. We will try to give some relief to people by taking steps for free flow of traffic. We will also put special focus on women safety in the city,” he said.

Mr. Srikanth also said that over a period of time, Visakhapatnam City has been reporting a number of cyber crime cases. Detection of these cases has been a growing challenge and there was also a need to create more awareness, he said.

When questioned about the land grabbing issues, the new CP said: “Already a forum was formed by the police involving several departments. We will check and take necessary steps,”

Congratulating the new Police Commissioner, former Police Commissioner Manish Kumar Sinha, said that he is privileged to hand over charge to Mr. Srikanth, who is a well-qualified and a good police officer.

“This is the second time, Mr. Srikanth has succeeded me. Earlier in 2008, he succeeded me as Superintendent of Police, Srikakulam, district,” he recalled. He also remembered his association with the new Police Commissioner since 20 years.

“Visakhapatnam is a very good place. The people and staff have been very cooperative. I have tried to give my best possible service to them,” Mr. Manish Kumar Sinha said.

He also said that during his tenure, there were no major law and order issues. He said that the President Fleet Review (PFR) and Milan 2022 were organised successfully with the cooperation of police and people.
