There is a good career scope in hospitality sector with large investment in the industry in metros and other towns as well, A. Ratna Kumar, general manager of Best Western Ramachandra Hotel, has said.

Delivering a talk on hotel management organised by the Business Line Club in association with the State Bank of Hyderabad at the Imperial Institute of Hotel Management here on Friday, he spoke at length on the skillsets required in the industry. He urged the students to work hard to acquire the skills.

Proficiency in languages was an asset to those wanting to look for a career in the sector, he said and added that it was unfortunate that most parents were unaware of the opportunities in the industry and continue to look down upon it.

“It is necessary for a hotel manager to pocket his or her ego and sometimes perform tasks normally considered menial. You have to scrub the floor if necessary. You must always be courteous to guests, even the difficult ones,” he noted.

Director of CTC Prasad, Regional General Manager of The Hindu T.V Suresh, Director of the Imperial Institute Pradhan were present.
