Car festival from Sunday

Nine-day car festival of Sri Jagannath to be organised by the International Society for Krishna Conscious will begin on Sunday. .

The car festival, popularly known as Rath Yatra, will see a 37-foot collapsible canopy veering on Beach Road via Kali Mata temple and Coastal Battery before stopping at Viswapriya function hall.

Once the yatra concludes, devotees will carry the processional deities of Lord Jagannath, Baladev and Subhadra to the stage set up at the function hall and offer a wide range of bhog that consists of 108 dishes.

President of ISKCON Samba Das told media persons on Thursday a large number of people were expected to pull the chariot on the Beach Road. Cultural programmes will be presented by Sri Krishna Nritya Kala Samithi, Simhachalam. Presentation of kirtans, kolatam and discourse on ‘Jagannath Swami leela’ by Mataji Nitai Sevini will form part of the celebrations.

Flowers and sweets for the festival will be sourced from various places, including Bengaluru and Puri.
