Cancel library site agreement, says panel

April 29, 2013 03:27 pm | Updated 03:27 pm IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

A committee formed to protect the site of Zilla Grandhayala Sasmstha (ZGS) at Maharanipet demanded that ZGS invoke the provisions for annulling the agreement since 38 months have elapsed.

In a statement here, Visakhapatnam ZGS Sthala Parirakshana Committee convener B. L. Narayana said in view of the opposition to the site being allotted and its provisions the revised plan that allotted a mere 476 square yards to the library and 4,000 square yards for commercial use to Pratyusha Associates was not given official status yet.

There was a flip-flop on the plan itself with the Director of Libraries stating that the revised plan was not approved and the original one should be taken up in a letter in February 2012.

However, within a week the government decided to consider the revised plan with legal opinion and a high-level meeting was held with the Education Minister, Principal Secretary, Director of Libraries and representatives of Pratyusha Company.Mr. Narayana ridiculed the claim of Minister for Infrastructure and Investment Ganta Srinivasa Rao that once he became the minister he did not have anything with Pratyusha Associates.

The award of the contract itself to “the single highest bidder” was quite peculiar, he pointed out.
