A consultation with experts and officials on permanent measures to be taken to curb beach erosion would be held here on Monday, Viskahapatnam MP and BJP State president K. Haribabu said.

Addressing the media here along with BJP City president P.V. Narayana Rao and former City unit president M. Nagender, the MP said that there was an urgent need to explore permanent solutions to beach erosion to protect the highly popular beach road in the City. Experts from academia and industries who have experience in marine constructions and officials from GVMC, VUDA and the Port would participate in the consultative meeting.

Based on the consultations a proposal would be put up to the Government on the way ahead.

Recalling that beach erosion has been a recurring threat to the city beaches, he said that it was due to the natural movement of tides. It was aggravated due to the dredging taken up to clear the channel for the movement of ships into and out of the Port and said that it was not possible to really stop the sea surge but look at solutions that would reduce the damage to the beach that was a popular among both the residents and visitors.

Admitting that a comprehensive solution to the beach erosion had to be worked out, including study of violations of Coastal Regulatory Zone rules and revival of wind breaker plantations, he said plantations would not be feasible on the Beach Road.
