Andhra University Vice-Chancellor P.V.G.D. Prasad Reddy has urged the officials of the US Consulate, Hyderabad, to open an office in the city for the benefit of students from Andhra Pradesh aspiring to go to the U.S. for higher studies.
During an interactive session on the U.S. visa organised by the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce (IACC) of AP and Telangana, in association with the U.S. Consulate, Hyderabad, on Thursday, Mr. Reddy appealed to the US Consulate officials to set up an office in the city and offered to allocate the required land in the Andhra University for the purpose.
“Lakhs of students from the State are going to the U.S. for higher studies and they can be given information on the various courses available there,” he said.
The Vice-Chancellor also spoke on the plans of introducing twinning programmes in collaboration with American Universities.
Digital certificate
“Andhra University is planning to issue certificates online to its students and this would make it easy for the visa officials,” he said.
US Consulate official Benjamin Levelius, Vice Consul, U.S. Consulate General(USCG) said in the last fiscal, the USCG, Hyderabad, had issued 10 lakh visas. It had issued the second highest number of H-1 B visas globally after the U.S. Consulate in Chennai. “Telugu is the fastest growing language in the U.S.,” he said and cautioned students against producing fake documents or concealing information as it could permanently debar them from going to the U.S.
President of AP Chambers of Commerce and Industry Federation G. Sambasiva Rao, Vice Consuls of USCG Jacob Dinerman and Jeremy Murray, Vice Chairman of IACC Vijay Sai Meka, chairperson of Coastal Corridor Committee of IACC AP and TS, MV Narayana Rao and Director of Global Tree Careers Pvt. Ltd. Subhakar Alapati were present.
