AU tops State in NIRF rankings

Most of its colleges find place in top rankings

The Andhra University (AU) and most of its colleges have turned out to be the top educational institution in the State in the Human Resource Development Ministry’s India Rankings 2018.

In all, five institutions in the overall category, six in Universities, five in Engineering, two in Degree Colleges, two each in Management and Pharmacy and one in Law categories found a place in the nationwide rankings.

The AU, which was ranked 69th in 2017, jumped 33 places to reach the 36th position in the overall ranking of the top 100 institutions. The Sri Venkateswara University (SVU), Tirupati, which was at the 68th position last year, slipped to the 74th rank.

It is followed by the Koneru Lakshmiah Educational Foundation, Guntur (KLEF) at rank 83 and the Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS) at the 89th rank.

Also in the top 100 universities category AU, SVU, KLEFU and SVIMS topped the State with 22, 49, 56 and 62 ranks respectively. The Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management, Visakhapatnam, and the Sri Satya Institute of Higher Learning were respectively ranked 85th and 92nd in the same category and stood fifth and sixth in the State.

In the Engineering category, the KLEF’s engineering college was at the 49th rank and topped the State. It is followed by the AU College of Engineering at 65, the SVU engineering college at 71, the Sagi Ramakrishnam Raju Engineering College, Bhimavaram, at 85 and the JNTU Kakinada engineering college at 92.

The Institute for Financial Management and Research, Satyavedu, at 34 and the KLEF’s management college at 46 made it to the top 50 institutions in the Management category and the AU College of Pharmaceutical Sciences at rank 28 and the Raghavendra Institute of Pharmaceutical Education & Research, Anantapur, at rank 39 made it to the top 50 list. Also, the AU’s Dr. B.R. Ambedkar College of Law was ranked 10 in the top 10 law colleges list.

Institutions in top 150, 200 lists

Several other government and private institutions including Govt. Degree College for Women, Guntur, Vignan’s Foundation for Science, Technology and Research, Guntur, Gayatri Vidya Parishad College of Engineering, Visakhapatnam, Shri Vishnu Engineering College for Women, Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering and Technology, Velagapudi Ramakrishna Siddhartha Engineering College, and Dr. V. S. Krishna Govt. Degree College, were in the top 150 and top 200 lists.
