Andhra Pradesh has leaped to the second position from 23rd position, as being the State with least corruption.
This was disclosed by the DSP of Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) Kinjarapu Ramakrishna Prasad, on the occasion of the Vigilance Awareness Week that began here on Monday.
After administering a pledge, the DSP said in the last two years ACB had arrested a number of top officials across the State that includes the Additional Excise Commissioner Katam Lakshman Bhaskar, Director Town Planning of Vijayawada G.V. Raghu, Engineer in-Chief Public Health Panduranga Rao and Chief engineer of Roads and Buidings M Gangadharam.
This apart, a number of officers from Municipal Corporation, Stamps and Registration, Revenue, Commercial Taxes, Police and RTO were caught both while accepting bribes and under DA (disproportionate assets) cases, said Mr. Ramakrishna Prasad. It is estimated that the assets seized from the top officials who even diverted funds through shell companies tune up to over ₹ 2000 crore.
As part of the vigilance week, ACB will be putting up posters and distributing pamphlets on Tuesday in the city to create awareness on ACB and how they can be contacted by common man in case of registering a corruption case, will be organising a workshop on for all vigilance officers and other stakeholders on how to curb corruption in their respective departments on Wednesday and will be organising quiz and essay competition for students at Dr. V.S. Krishna College on Thursday.
The prizes will be given away on Friday, he said.
