With an aim to bring in transparency in spending MPLADS funds through people’s participation, Visakhapatnam MP and BJP State president K. Haribabu has launched a contest for the general public.

Speaking at the launch of a poster on ‘One MP One Idea’ contest for the year 2014 here on Sunday, the MP said that he was keen on involving people in identifying works under MPLADS.

He pointed out that he had conducted a consultation on the subject involving civil society organisations.

The MPLADS guidelines have a provision for taking up innovative works suggested by people, which the MP wants to utilise through the contest.

The contest, with a prize totalling Rs. 2.25 lakh, is open to the general public.

It would be conducted in three categories — Junior (for students up to Intermediate), Senior (for students of degree and post-graduation courses), and open for every one.

The last date for submission of suggestions for the year is December 31.

“Suggestions can be submitted in the prescribed format in collection boxes to be put up at different places or online,” the MP said.

The contest details can be known from: onemponeideavizag.blogspot.in.

GITAM Institute of Management, Sri Prakash Vidyaniketan, and Vijay Nirman Company have come forward to take care of organising the collection of suggestions.

Former Union Minister U.V. Krishnam Raju, Visakha North MLA P. Vishnu Kumar Raju, representatives of GIM, Vijay Nirman, senior BJP leaders, including city unit president P.V. Narayana Rao and former city president M. Nagendar, were present.
